史蒂文·斯皮尔伯格

Steven Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 18, 1946. Interested in making movies from a very young age, he started making 8mm films involving train wrecks with his toy trains and charging admission while his sister sold popcorn.

At age thirteen, he won a prize for a forty minute war movie he made entitled “Escape to Nowhere”. In 1963 he wrote and directed a 140 min. science fiction feature called "Firelight" which yielded a hundred dollar profit at the local movie theater.

Having always known that film making was his passion, Spielberg applied to UCLA film school but was rejected 3 times due to his low GPA. After he became famous and his work was revered, USC granted him an honorary diploma in 1994 and he later became a trustee there.

Forced to learn about movie making somewhere besides the university, Spielberg became an unpaid intern at Universal Studios. During his time as an intern he made a 24 min. short entitled “Amblin” in 1968. The studio was so impressed with it that they offered him a television directing contract. Based on the strength of his TV work, Universal offered him a three picture deal. The first of these three was The Sugarland Express and later Jaws which earned over one hundred million dollars and an academy award nomination for best picture, thus securing his status as a competent director.

Spielberg went on to make some of the biggest blockbusters in history including Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Jurassic Park, Amistad and Schindler’s List which won an Oscar for best picture and best director in 1993. He won another in 1998 for Saving Private Ryan.

Spielberg married actress Kate Capshaw in 1991 and they have eight children between the two of them including adopted, god, step and biological.
